The Season so far
2006
Our 2005/06 season ended with us finishing bottom of the league having to play
most of it with 10 players so it was no surprise, but with out doubt those
players turned up & gave everything they had. The easiest thing to do was to
give & pack it in, but those players never gave up even when 6, 7, 8 even 15
goals down so throwing the towel in wasn’t a option so something had to be done.
So we welcome Carl Goring as our new assistant coach & then new players, so with
the never say die attitude we already have we start rebuilding the team for the
2006/07 season & beyond. With the squad growing & starting to take shape we were
in need of a new kit, which our sponsors TURNERS PALLETS provided the funds for
along with rain jackets now we even look the part with coaching sessions going
well it was time to put what we have done so far to the test.
Our 1st test came at the 5-a-side festivals,Chelmsley town fc was 1st up with us
finishing as 3rd place play-off winners then our own festival where we got beat
in the semi-finals by the winners, the last one before we start pre-season
friendlies was at Callow brook swifts this time getting beat on penalties in the
semi-finals. With the festivals going well & our 1st friendly also going to plan
with 6v3 win the future was looking up or was it, taking the lead against
ALVECHURCH LIONS we thought so but all our hard work had gone to waste losing
5v2, then losing 5v0 to CALLOWBROOK SWIFTS our pre-season was over .
So onto the league & GREENLAND BOYS were the visitors to baytree farm for the
1st league game of the season which once again finished with us losing 5v1, 18
goals against 9 goals for not the start we was looking for. Next up the 1st of 2
cup ties, SHIRLEY TOWN gave us the kick start to season we have been working
hard for winning 3v2, the league shield brought SOLIHULL JUNIORS to baytree &
another victory winning this one 4v2, now there was sense of belief running
through the team, back to league & our 1ST away match was at ONYX COLTS which
turned out to be one of RUBERY JUNIORS FC all time goal scoring records 23v3.
Away again this time to SOLIHULL TIGERS & our 1st clean sheet of the season
11v0, was there any stopping us now, well not for next 4 matches anyway beating
PHOENIX BORO 7v3 in the open cup, HAMPTON SPORTS in the league shield 6v3,
COLESHILL TOWN 7v3 & then drawing FIVEWAYS UTD 2v2. At this time we were
C.W.Y.F.L.leading goal scorers, so now our goal for was looking far better &
last season was all behind us now.
Back down to earth with a round 3 open cup tie against div1 leaders COLDLAND
COLTS but not before we take the lead, div5 v div1 was there going to be a cup
upset sorry not this time, our hard work was not enough & COLDLANDS went on to
win 6v1.Round3 of the league shield next against old rivals SHADOW BROOK RANGERS
who we haven’t beat in 6attempts so could it be lucky 7 for us? Yes victory at
last winning 2v1 but more importantly a place in the semi-finals of the league
shield against MOOR GREEN COLTS.
A cup hang over next with NORTH B’HAM CELTIC giving our goals against a
hammering beating us 5v0. So we needed to pick ourselves up & dust ourselves
down for the game against YEWTREE YOUTH & we did grabbing our 2nd clean sheet of
the season 3v0. A hard fought out draw against FIVEWAYS UTD 1v1 takes into the
Xmas break, 5th in the league & a semi-final so still all to play for….to be
continued.
